There’s a famous quote, I’m sure you’ve heard, that goes something like “The only person you should strive to be better than is the person you were yesterday.”
I love that.
The last year has been such a period of monumental growth and change in my life. Every goal or milestone I hit has fueled me to keep pushing forward, to test my personal boundaries, to be a better woman, mother, sister, friend than I was before.
To continue this momentum, I want to incorporate more personal growth challenges into my life. I want to step out of my comfort zone and really test my abilities and boundaries. I want to explore my full potential and genuinely see what I’m made of. Wouldn’t it be amazing to turn self-doubt and unawareness into real, tangible and measurable results?
A while back I tried #21EarlyDays and it was life changing. I woke up every day between 4 and 4:30am for 21 days. You can read about my experience on my old blog here. To this day I still incorporate early mornings into my routine, though not as often as I would like (Which is why #30EarlyDays is on the list of challenges coming up!).
These challenges will give me, and anyone who wants to jump on board, the opportunity to grow, explore, and develop healthy, beneficial habits. They’ll last 30 days each and will start at the beginning of each month. At the end of each month, I’ll announce the challenge for the next month, and talk about how the challenge will help us grow as people. Some will be health focused, others will be about productivity, some will be just for the hell of it!
Here is a list of the ideas I have floating around so far. I really hope you’ll join in and test your boundaries and abilities with me. I’d love to hear your suggestions!
- 30 Days of Activity (#30ActiveDays) – Get moving every single day for a month!
- 30 Early Days (#30EarlyDays) – What would you do with a few extra hours a day?
- 30 Days of No Spending (#NoSpend[InsertMonthHere]) – Can you go a month only buying the absolutely necessary items for survival? This is great for gaining control of impulse spending.
- 30 Days of No TV (#30DaysTVFree)
- 30 Days of Makeup (#30MadeUpDays) – Even if makeup isn’t your thing, this challenge is to get up and pull yourself together, every morning for a month, no matter what.
It’s easy though, in these times of growth, to compare yourself and your successes to others, as a way of almost grading or judging yourself when in reality, the only one you need to beat is you. We need to let our milestones be the bar in which we set for ourselves. For this reason, I’ll be hosting an online Facebook event each month through my page, where you can join in and find support. This will not be a group for comparison, but rather a space for advice, encouragement, discussions of struggle, and discussion of triumphs. It will be difficult for some of us to not compare ourselves in this group, but the entire premise of these Personal Growth Challenges is to step out of your comfort zone and condition yourself to focus on YOUR goal at hand. It’s going to be a prime example of facing your fear head on and not letting it phase you. Will it be difficult? Yes, sometimes. I still scroll through my Keto groups and wonder why this person is losing more than me, or scroll through Instagram and wonder why after all my hours of hustling I haven’t reached #LadyBoss status. We’re conditioned to compare. Let’s change that, and learn about ourselves along the way.
I hope you’ll jump on board.
***EDITED TO ADD: Facebook no longer allows events to last longer than 2 weeks so I’ve created a group for us instead. I’ll jsut update it monthly with each new challenge. Join
