If you’ve been around since the beginning of my venture into blogging, you’ve likely seen the transformation from The Modern Mommy to Millennial Mom, and now to By Bri. First, thank you. Second, I want to explain myself.
When I first started blogging I had NO IDEA what I was doing. I just knew that I had stories I needed to share and a longing to be my own lady-boss so starting a blog seemed like a no brainer. What I didn’t know was the immense learning curve that I had to follow in order to reach my goal.
Initially, I though mom-blogging was where it was at! I’m a Mom. I know Mom stuff. Perfect, right? At first it was, until I decided to branch out and start the Canadian Mom Blog as well, in order to reach a different audience. It quickly became overkill and I was having trouble managing topics for both blogs. That’s when I rebranded from The Modern Mommy to Millennial Mom, hoping that the new change in name and overall feeling of this blog would allow me to be more creative and artistically expressive on one outlet and keep the mom blogging genre over on Canadian Mom Blog.
But it still wasn’t working for me. I felt like I needed to stay within the confines of the mommy blogger genre because my blog name had “Mom” in it. I felt like I had to watch what I say or post for fear of being judged and scrutinized. And worst of all, I felt like I wasn’t able to connect with the huge group of women who have chosen to live their lives child-free. I already have a place to meet and connect and share with moms. It’s over at Canadian Mom Blog.
What I want and need now is a place to share my stories of self-discovery, outside of my Mom label. While parenting is obviously a HUGE part of my life, it’s not all that I’m about. As my kids get older and grow, I find myself also getting older and growing. My life is changing. I’m no longer in auto-pilot mode just trying to survive as a single mom with 2 young kids. I’m flourishing and living and finding what it means to be an adult woman, and it’s something I want so so badly to share with the world. I want to connect with like-minded women and talk about health, and wellness, or beauty and boys, not diapers and play dates. I have an outlet for talking all things family, and for that, I am so grateful. I love Canadian Mom Blog and will continue with it until my kids move out but it’s time for me to use this platform to embrace the woman I am becoming. Life is good now, and I want to share that.
Obviously, my kids and family will come up from time to time. Just because being a Mom no longer defines me, that doesn’t mean that my kids aren’t an integral part of my life. But they are not going be the focus on By Bri. I am.
So what can you expect to see here?
Health and Wellness – I’ve recently been on a weight loss journey. It’s been a pain in the ass but it’s paying off. I’ll share my struggles, successes, tips, tricks, and helpful videos I find on youtube.
Food – Part of my weight loss journey includes eating low carb or “Keto”. I want to share some of these amazing recipes with you! I used to hate cooking, now it’s hella fun and food has never tasted so good.
Minimalism and Mindfulness – Minimalism is a huge part of my life and something I wish I could introduce the world to. It’s about so much more than just getting rid of all your shit. I’m also working hard on learning to be more mindful and intentional about life so I’m super excited to share those experiences and maybe even learn from you guys!
Beauty – Beauty tips for the average chick. Nothing fancy like you see from those super-talented Youtubers, just everyday products, and routines. This is uncharted water for me but I have some really great ideas!
Essays – As I mentioned earlier, one of the primary reasons I started blogging was to share my stories. I want to people to be able to relate and know they aren’t alone. Those “real-talk” essays aren’t going anywhere and I’ll continue to post them.
You’re likely going to see some reposted stuff coming from Millennial Mom as I transition over to By Bri, but only posts that are relevant to the feeling over here. I’ll eventually be shutting down Millennial Mom so there are a few things from that blog I want to live on. I promise to continue keeping it real, and transparent and want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sticking with me through these changes and this growth, as I find my footing.
For those of you who were strictly here for info related to mom-ing and want to continue talking diapers and playdates, I recommend checking out my other blog (Canadian Mom Blog) for all things family related.
